The
following continuing education programs are offered throughout
our service area on a regular basis.
Achievement
Certificate in Alzheimer's Care
This
comprehensive 16-hour program provides
a foundation for quality dementia care. Program highlights
include understanding the experience of dementia; communicating
well; creating resident-centered activities; coping with challenging
siutations; and enhancing relationships with families.
It
is designed for nurses, long-term care staff, activity directors,
social workers, facility administrators, adult day care staff,
care managers, home health aides and staff developers.
Achievement
Certificate in Alzheimer's Care
with Practicum
In
addition to the 16-hour program described above, we offer
a 16-hour hands-on practicum in a dementia unit where students
are able to apply their skills. Total course hours:

Caring
for People with Advanced Dementia
An
8-hour course that explores the issues related to caring for
persons with more advanced dementia.
Care
Training
An eight-hour basic training that provides information on
Alzheimer's disease, its affect on patients and families,
and the challenges that Alzheimer's presents. Professionals
who provide care to individuals with Alzheimer's disease and
related dementias, both in the home and in facilities, will
develop solid caregiving strategies.
Understanding
Dementia
A
2-hour dementia orientation. Explores differences between
normal and abnormal memory loss. Satisfies DHS requirements
for staff dementia training regulations (AB1347). Also excellent
for staff orientation in assisted living settings. Train the
Trainer option available.
